A ROM patch is a small file that contains the differences between an original game file
(ROM) and a modified version. Patching simply applies these changes to your original file to
create the modified game (hack, translation, etc.) without distributing the full copyrighted
game.
IPS (International Patching System) is one of the oldest and most common patch formats. To
use it, simply load your original ROM file in the left box and the .ips file in the right
box above, then click "Apply Patch".
IPS is limited to 16MB files. UPS was designed to bypass this limit. BPS is a more modern
format that creates smaller patches and includes verification checksums to ensure the
correct original ROM is used, preventing errors.
